What is Yellow Fever?

Yellow fever is a viral infection spread by mosquitoes in tropical regions of Africa and South America. It is called “yellow” fever because of the jaundice (yellowing of eyes and skin) that can develop in severe cases.

The disease, in serious cases, can lead to organ failure and death. Because of this, many countries legally require proof of vaccination for entry.
